Mepkin Abbey

Mepkin_abbey_2 Some men and women may wish to spend several nights in one of the Guest Houses for the purpose of a spiritual retreat. These retreats are scheduled from Monday afternoon to Friday morning and from Friday afternoon to Monday morning.  Week-long retreats are available from Monday to Monday or Friday to Friday.

Rooms provided include a bed, desk and reading chair. Most rooms have a private bath with shower, toilet, and sink. Bed linens, towels, and soap are provided. Married couples can be accommodated.

Retreatants take their meals together in a dining facility adjacent to the monastic community’s refectory, eating the same vegetarian diet and observing the same silence as the monks. During the main meal at noon a book is read aloud by one of the monks for the benefit of all.

Retreatants may attend any and all prayer services in the Abbey Church and have a designated section in the monastic choir to accommodate them, if they so desire. One of the monks assists the retreatants with the order of prayer so as to facilitate their full participation.

No conferences are given, but spiritual counsel is available upon request.  The Clare Boothe Luce Library is open to retreatants at designated times.

Advance reservations are required as is prior notice of cancellation. Retreatants’ donations are gratefully accepted. Nine people can be accommodated at any one time.

Algonquin Wilderness Eco-Lodge

Ecolodge Designed and built as an Algonquin Nordic Wilderness Lodge, the Ecolodge was created to give you the best wilderness experience possible, while minimizing our impact on the environment. It has the feel and atmosphere of a European mountain lodge, and is one of the most secluded hotels in Algonquin Park. In fact, your experience begins with a leisurely 2.3 km walk, or cycle, or ski (about 20 minutes) through Algonquin Park to reach the front doors.

beautifully secluded amidst remote Algonquin forests, where even hydro lines and telephone poles can't reach. And yet, with a combination of alternative energy sources, the Eco-Lodge still provides all the finer comforts, such as indoor plumbing, battery powered hot showers, an outdoor wood-fired year round sauna, and even a hot tub for use in our cold winters!

Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast

Heceta_head_lighthouse_2 Pronounced “Ha – SEE – Ta” by most, “HECK – ah – Ta” by others, yet everyone agrees Heceta Head is one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world.

The Heceta Head Lighthouse and Light Keeper’s house are circa 1894. Both are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The lighthouse is a working lighthouse. From a height of 205 feet above the ocean, it’s “first order” Fresnel lens, casts it’s beams some 21 miles out to sea. It is the brightest light on the Oregon coast. It is said to be the most photographed lighthouse in the United States.

The Heceta Head Keeper’s House is perched on a cliff with a magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean and the beach below. Paths from the Keeper’s House lead both to the beach and to the lighthouse.
